Little Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands, Strete, Devon

We've not been on a walk for a while so we decided to blow out the Christmas cobwebs and this time we bought along a special guest. Let us introduce you to Mama C!

Whenever we come to Devon, we always try to cross off more of the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path and today was no different. We intended to walk from Little Dartmouth to the end of Slapton Sands but ended cutting it short in Strete as we didn't realise how challenging it would be and we wanted to get back to the car before it got dark. We decided to stop there as it seemed a logical place to pick the route back up again another day. We also passed a pub that on the bus route we needed which helped our decision.

As always, here's the route we took, we parked at a National Trust carpark and got the bus back to Stoke Fleming and walked the last little bit. We started out by walking down a country lane, through the small town of Stoke Fleming and then found a path that took us to Blackpool Sands.

We took out the sandwiches that we made for the walk and enjoyed the kind of peace that you only get on a quiet beach, with the water roaring near us. There was a toilet block there (with hot water!) which is always a bonus on any walk.

This next part of the route really does need walking boots as it was a little muddy from the recent bad weather. The hills we were climbing were very steep and just as we got to the top to relax, we saw that another one was on its way.

We always judge the walks on difficultly when we think if our mums can do it, and although she was looking for a way out, Mama C managed to climb down and up all the steep hills this walk threw at us. We all soldiered on and managed to get to the other side. It wasn't too long after this that we made it around to Strete.

We either had a 5 minute wait for the bus or an hour, so in true Williams style we stepped inside a local pub called The King's Arms were we could wait for an hour with a well deserved drink.
The bus back took us 15 minutes and cost £2.30 each. The rest of the journey is back through a country lane that had no lights, so really would recommend doing it in the light.
We loved this walk, and even though Mama C didn't know what she was getting herself into, she really enjoyed it too.
