Dovestone Reservoir Circular Walk, Saddleworth Moor

So it's been a long time since we've last posted. We've been training for a half marathon and because of injuries, we've been unable to walk too far. The injury has been ongoing since May, and hoping we're now in the recovery period so we need to up our walking game again!

We were treated to a lovely weekend away where we stayed in gorgeous lake side glamping pod at  Dovestone Holiday Park. Because of the injury, we thought it was best to do a couple of shorter walks. Dovestone Reservoir was the perfect place for us to explore. We went just after the fires were breaking out on Saddleworth Moor, so it was really sad to see the smoke coming over the hills in some places, but the teams were working very hard to tackle it.

Around Dovestone Reservoir, the walk was fairly easy underfoot, some small inclines, but a good path to follow. Throughout all the walk, it was really well signposted. Before we go any further, here's the route that we took. The views were absolutely stunning, the glistening of the waters, and the green grass against the blue sky. We would happily have sat there for hours if we weren't so worried about burning in the heat!

Yeoman Hay Reservoir had a little bit more rubble, and some more steps, but I wouldn't say it's difficult by any means. Once we walked around both of these, we stopped of at a row of benches, overlooking Dovestone Reservior, and a growing Memorial Wood for a little picnic that we made. When we went further around, we saw there was a handful of picnic benches and a small play area.

We really did love this walk and really would come back here! It's a beautiful part of the country. The picture above shows the 'toughest' part of the walk. There was signs to say that it really gets boggy when it rains, particularly when we broke off from the reservoirs, so it's probably best packing wellies if the forecast isn't too great. In the blaze of this year's summer - walking boots were great for the terrain, but too hot for the heat.
