Bakewell, Derbyshire
We had some visitors so we thought it was the perfect excuse to go to Bakewell and earn a proper Bakewell Tart!
We started in the car park in the town (15 Granby Rd, Bakewell DE45 1HF) then proceeded to go to the Monsal Trail. It is a fairly flat route once you get onto the trail, but it's quick steep slope to get there.
This is a lovely trek along an old railway track where you can make it as long or as short as you would like to, with the first place you can come off at, is this gorgeous old train station. The first time we did this walk we carried on further and went through fields to circle back to Bakewell town centre.
There are so many great things about this walk, there are great views right from the start and a lovely tea room halfway round if you want to stop, recoup and grab some lunch before you start to head back. We didn't know about this, so was a bit gutted that we had our own picnic however we found a few picnic benches along the way, so it was nice to stop there and have our sandwiches.
Walking boots/wellies/shoes you don't mind getting muddy would be good for this walk. It doesn't matter so much if you walk to the old railway track, but if you want to continue like we did, it does go through fields and in true British form - you can never guarantee the weather!
We absolutely love this walk because you get to experience some of the loveliest countryside that Britain has to offer, and a small gorgeous town at the end for a bit of a sweet treat. The only thing you need to think about this walk is of you're going to have icing on your Bakewell tart at the end (or do what we did and justify having both because you've just done a long walk!).
