Rhossili Coast and Beach Walk, Swansea
We've just had a lovely weekend camping at the Greenways Campsite in Gower, South Wales where we were incredibly blessed with glorious sunshine which made resisting a good walk even harder. Luckily the storm only lasted the night so we could explore the beautiful coast.
This walk has a bit of everything, big hills to climb, great views to look down on and a walk along a long beach. Most importantly there is a place to grab a sandwich (or ice-cream!) and a drink halfway round and a pub at the that was motivation to get up the last hill. Unfortunately, when we got to to the top we found out that dogs weren't allowed so we stopped off at a pub between the campsite and the walk.
Here's the route that we took which took around 4 hours to complete walking at a fairly average pace with stops for photos and ice-cream. As you can see that you not everyone was wearing walking boots, but we certainly felt sturdier in them. There were different rocks to climb up and coming down was very steep so it was nice to have that extra support. The thing we found most difficult was coming down, but there were different ways down if you needed to. It was definitely worth climbing to to get our trig point photo and the views across the beach.
To make this walk circular, there's a gorgeous walk along the 3 mile beach, which is always incredible, but it was nice to see just how high we walked too. You can see why the beach has been named one of the top in Europe, but one thing to look out for, especially if you have a dog or young children, is that there was quite a lot of marine life on the shore line. We came across several jellyfish and tiny sharks which was quite sad. It's a reason to be on the look out, but not to avoid completely and after looking online after there was more than the usual amount and there was a big storm during the night so that could have been a factor as to why there was so many.
We would definitely recommend this walk! It's on a National Trust site so there is plenty of parking. It cost us around £5 to park for the whole day and it's really worth paying it to get the views we did.
