Mousehole - St Michael's Mount, Cornwall

We were going to Mousehole for our mini-moon, so naturally we needed to see if we can get some more of the South West Coast Path in. We toyed with the idea of walking to Land's End (!) but it was going to be a big day and we couldn't guarantee the weather with it being in October.

Instead, we opted to go from Mousehole (a beautiful village in the South of Cornwall, just down from Penzance) to St. Michael's Mount. It was something that we wanted to see so we thought this was the perfect opportunity. The route took us along the roads to begin with, then onto a path, then we opted for the beach!

The one thing we would recommend about this walk is that you absolutely MUST check for tide times. St. Michael's Mount is a National Trust place and you might want to have a look around. There is a boat that takes you to and from if you are stranded on the island, but if you want to walk to it, you will need to check high tide.

We did love this walk, we love being by the sea. We left Mousehole without getting any sandwiches as we couldn't see any shops that sold any, but we knew we were going through Penzance so didn't think it was an issue. The was a co-op en route so went in the and got what we needed.
This walk took you through a few towns at first, which was really lovely. It went from quite a quiet village like Mousehole then slowly got busier as we got towards Penzance.

As we opted to go on the beach and walk along there, we didn't realise that we would meet quite a small estuary running to the sea. Whilst this caused a few laughs, there was only one thing to do, off came the boots and the socks, up came the trousers legs and we waded through this ice cold water! It's these little things that highlights our enjoyment for walking, the things that make you belly laugh, and the points that you recall when telling someone about a walk.

We got to St. Michael's Mount and walked around the castle and the gardens, we were cut a little short as the were worried about the tide was coming up, and we wanted to walk back to the shore. We finished the walk in true Williams' style and went to Godolphin for a well deserved drink. We thought we would get the bus to Penzance, then a taxi, but as the evening came in quicker than we were expecting -  or it may have been the second glass of wine -we opted for a taxi from the Godolphin.

It was a really great walk, it took us a couple of hours and, if you take out St Michael's Mount, it's relatively flat. It can be adapted really easily, depending on where you are staying.
